Andrew Marriott

Although a trained engineer, Andrew began freelance motorsports journalism at the age of 17. He joined the staff of Motoring News at 21 and spent most of his 20’s covering the Formula 1 Grand Prix scene and helping the circulation triple under the initials A.R.M. With the exception of Mike Hawthorn , Alberto Ascari and Giuseppe Farina , in his long career Andrew has interviewed every Formula 1 World Champion and thousands of other motorsports and show business personalities.

In 1973, together with the late Barrie Gill and Michael Tee he formed CSS Promotions Ltd. During the following 30 years, CSS became one of Europe’s major sports PR and marketing agencies. Andrew instigated and ran many successful campaigns for such companies as John Player, Marlboro, Canon, Autoglass, Halfords and Texaco. He also worked closely with a number of World Champions, including Mario Andretti, James Hunt, Barry Sheene, Nigel Mansell and Mike Hailwood.

A parallel career as a broadcaster saw him work for ITV, CBS, Sky Sports, Fox Sports and many others . That career continues to this day and while, over the years, Andrew and commentated and presented at such major sportscar events at the Le Mans 24 Hours, Daytona 24Hrs, Sebring 12Hrs , Dubai 24Hrs, he now tends to concentrate on Classic and Historic events from Monaco, Le Mans, Spa and Daytona and the Peter Auto Classic series. Prior to this Andrew worked in Formula 1 television for many years both as a commentator and pit lane reporter for ITV, ESPN, Eurosport and Sky Sports.

Following the acquisition of CSS by Stellar Management in 2000, Andrew continued with the group until 31st December 2004, and has concentrated on running Pit Lane since then.

In the ‘70’s Andrew enjoyed success as a rally co-driver, winning events in the UK and South Africa. Andrew together with his 70s rally partner Andy Dawson have won the MPG Marathon fuel economy event for Ford three times, most recently in 2017. His latest book as a co-author, "Hobbo", was published in Spring 2016 and has been nominated as Best Motoring Book of the Year, and was nominated for the RAC’s Best Motoring Book of the Year Award. Last year Andrew contributed to the BHP publication Forever Young , which was also nominated for the RAC award .

Andrew’s own autobiography and collection of humorous essays “Is There Much More of This?” was published at the end of 2021 by Performance Publishing and is available from Amazon or from Pit Lane.
